LCMS Campus Ministry

LCMS Campus Ministry’s 2010 Video Contest offers you the opportunity to share your excitement about spiritual growth, outreach, building up the body of Christ, and, well, fun in the campus ministry or group that you’re part of!

Here’s what you need to know to be a part of it:

Plan a video that best expresses your group’s response to God’s love and power in your campus community. Some possible focuses: how campus ministry addresses the issues and concepts most relevant to students in college/university contexts; what living our faith means to us; the campus: a critical mission field; coming to faith as a young adult through campus ministry; how we define faith in action; we are the church.

To Submit an Entry:

1. There is no entry fee or other cost required by LCMS Campus Ministry for entry into the 2010 Video Contest.

2. Read all the contest rules closely (See below). Use the form at the bottom of this page to submit any questions. Shoot and edit your video. Do your best—and do make it a true student effort; we’re not interested in vids produced by professional media companies.

3. Be sure to render your video file for web display—typically in .wmv, .mov, or .mp4 format.

4. Upload your video to your campus ministry’s YouTube channel or appropriate YouTube account of your choice. You must include LCMS Campus Ministry in your tags. Keep the URL of your uploaded video handy.

5. Fill out the submission form. Be sure your to provide your YouTube video’s URL. Submit the form.

Rules

Submitting your video. Contest begins September 1, 2010. Videos will be accepted through 11:59:59 p.m. Central Time October 31, 2010. LCMS Campus Ministry is not responsible for any problems or technical, hardware or software malfunctions of its Web site, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received due to technical problems, human error or traffic congestion, unavailable network connections on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including, without limitation, any injury or damage to any computer relating to or resulting from participating in this contest or downloading any materials in this contest.

Eligibility. Contest is open to Lutheran Student Fellowship (LSF) groups or campus ministry groups connected with LCMS congregations or LCMS campus centers. A group may submit more than one entry, but all of the content in each submitted video entered must be unique; in the case of duplicated content over multiple videos, the video received first will be accepted; subsequent videos will not be judged or displayed.

Awards. No more than one (1) prize will be awarded to any one campus ministry or LSF group. If more than one campus ministry or LSF group collaborates to produce a prizewinning video, the group listed on the entry form will be awarded the prize; how the prize is shared is the responsibility of the participating groups.

Videos:

1. Should be no longer than 4 minutes.

2. Appropriate use of the LCMS Campus Ministry or Lutheran Student Fellowship brand logo is recommended. Appropriate use includes a screen at the beginning or the end that displays a large-size logo OR displays the logo as a smaller “bug” in a corner of the screen (typically the bottom right corner)

3. Approved videos will be displayed on LCMS Campus Ministry’s YouTube channel. They will be identified with the name of the LSF group or campus ministry group named on the entry form.

Rights. By accepting the Rules stated on this page, you agree to have your name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without additional financial or other compensation, and, where legal, to sign a publicity release confirming such consent prior to acceptance of any prize.

If an individual filming, producing, or appearing in the video is someone other than you, you must obtain written permission and release from such individual(s) to use the video in any and all media without compensation. You must submit all required consent and releases at the request of LCMS Campus Ministry, including a release from all individuals featured in the video and all individuals filming and producing the video. You must have written permission to use the audio and visuals of everyone featured in the video in any and all media without compensation (download a release form here). Persons under 17 years of age may not appear in your video.

By submitting a video, you:

grant LCMS Campus Ministry license to display your video without royalty or other compensation
certify that your video is an original work and that you are the only copyright holder
acknowledge that LCMS Campus Ministry is not obligated to post any entry submitted

Judging. LCMS Campus Ministry’s panel will judge each video on its clarity of message, creativity, and effectiveness in (1) promoting a campus ministry or LSF group or (2) explaining a spiritual need in college students/young adults and the potential for student ministry to respond to that need.

An entry may be disqualified for inappropriate depiction of substance abuse/addiction, sexuality, profanity, intolerance, or violence against oneself or others. We are confident you will bless viewers by “speaking the truth in love” (Eph. 4) and pursuing the ideal of “whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, excellent, or praiseworthy” (Phil. 4:8).

Decisions of the judging panel will be final and binding.

Prizes. The Grand Prize awarded for the top video submitted will be a ministry grant in the amount of $500. Second Prize will be a ministry grant in the amount of $250.
