Thank you from LCMS Campus Ministry!

December 11, 2010

Dear Friends of LCMS Campus Ministry,

This is truly an exciting time for the organization, ministry leaders, volunteers, students, congregational and ministry partners. We are well into our first year as an RSO and independent operation from World Mission. The opportunity to engage in new ministry starts, uplift others and provide resources and ideas continues—including four new starts in the last two months. Responding to the community's requests for funding ideas, recruiting help, and ministry resources has also been a major part of our work this year. The first annual BikeWalkRun-Athon was well received by engaged ministries. Through our free StudentConnect service, we were able to connect more than 300 students to campus ministries this semester.

This spring will see the introduction of online interactive education, the Word at Work series, for ministry leaders, students and congregations. LCMS Campus Ministry will assist our education partner in offering a one-year certification in ministry to young adults, providing campus ministries the opportunity of additional trained lay support. Five student events have been planned with the great feedback from our September Student Mission Challenge. The Spring Break Underground servant gathering events are prompting many inquiries; we expect a very good turnout. Many student and ministry leaders are contributing ideas, time and talents. We have been richly blessed in our mission to build God's kingdom through ministry on campus and to young adults.

The need for dedicated, continuous ministry on campus, as well as pastoral and student leadership, engaged laity and congregational initiative in ministry to young adults in Christ's church, is enormous.  LCMS Campus Ministry is deeply committed to helping meet this need. Our community and partners witness this dedication through our staff, board, volunteers, program ideas and innovative use of technology. Campus ministry leaders around the country encompass the largest, most experienced group of people in ministry to young adults within the church. Their work is touching the lives of thousands of people on campus. A student from California comments: "Being involved with the campus ministry at my church did more for me than I intended. When I joined, I hoped it would bless me with friends, encouragement, purpose, and fun times. I also hoped that it would strengthen my faith and allow me to learn more about my Lord and Savior and grow closer to Him. It did all that, and more." (To view this student's testimony in a short video, click here).

As we endeavor to meet the needs of the Church, the faithful support of so many remains crucial to the mission. Your help continues to enable strong ministry on campus and to help provide resources to congregations that recognize the need to engage in ministry to young adults. In fact, without your help, this wouldn't be possible.

As you prayerfully consider your end-of-the-year giving, would you help us meet this need with even a small financial gift? Your generosity in the past has been such a blessing. Our needs are not extensive, our stewardship is exemplary, and we pledge that your gift of $10, $25 or $50 will make a real difference.

This is a ministry that addresses a time of tremendous change and uncertainty within our young adults, an audience on campus that is often at odds with the Church and with a church body that is experiencing a dramatic exodus of young adults from its membership. With your help, we will continue to address the dynamic needs of the Church in these areas.  Follow this link to an easy way to engage with us: www.lcmscampusministry.org.

Thank you for all the ways that you support the mission of LCMS Campus Ministry.
